Introducing Jimmy Yu : Media Artist and Performer
Hello and welcome to my blog!
My name is Jimmy Yu,
and I am a media artist and performer exploring
the intersection of technology and art.
Born in 1998 in Seoul,
I have always been fascinated by the ways
digital innovation can expand artistic expression.
With a dual degree in Software Engineering and Acting Arts,
I bring a unique perspective to my creative work,
seamlessly integrating conceptual storytelling with cutting-edge technology.
Currently, I am enrolled in the New Content Academy program
at the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA),
where I am further honing my skills and expanding my artistic vision.
My expertise spans the entire creative process,
from conceptualization to technological implementation,
positioning me as a ‘π-shaped’ creator who bridges multiple disciplines.
My artistic journey began in July 2024
with a 10-minute twerking performance
exploring the paradox of bodily expansion in women.
Since then, my work has delved into themes of female physicality,
the humanization of artificial intelligence, and labor,
blending media art with live performance to create immersive experiences.
Having trained in theater both in Korea and internationally,
I integrate refined narrative structures with high-level technical execution.
My approach to storytelling, deeply rooted in theatrical traditions,
has earned recognition for its ability to engage audiences on multiple levels.
I am particularly drawn to reinterpreting contemporary social issues
through my artistic lens,
pushing the boundaries of virtual and extended reality (XR)
to create transformative experiences
that challenge the distinctions between digital and physical spaces.
Through this blog, I aim to share my creative process,
insights, and experiences as I continue to evolve as an artist.
